MEASUREMENT OF WEAR RATE

This is data as important as measuring the coefficient of friction during a test or a tribological study.
Our profilometer measures the worn surface of the furrow with great precision (resolution: 7.55 manometer in Z) without dismantling the sample, which allows the test to continue in the same furrow, in the event of insufficient wear.
This profilometer is equipped with a probe without pad, with
internal reference which allows:

  • measurements on samples as small as 2 mm, whereas skid-type stylus require much larger
    minimum sample sizes.
  • to perform reliable and highly accurate measurements of wear grooves with ridges on each side,
    whereas stylus with skid give erroneous results of 30% to 3 times higher than reality.

Our software allows automatic measurement of the worn surface to instantly obtain the calculation of the wear rate in the Tribotester software and on the test report.

Our publication On the risks associated with wear quantification using profilometers equipped with skid tracers published at: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40544-016-0101-2 shows that the use of a skid probe for measuring cross section profiles of worn surfaces characterised by ridges on either sides of the wear track can introduce significant distortions of the measured wear track profiles and thus cause errors in wear quantification. The reason for that is attributed to the presence of ridges that shift up the skid position and thus alter artificially the height reference of the skid probe.

TRIBOCORROSION MEASUREMENTS 

It's common knowledge that humidity provokes rust, which leads to destruction of metals, process accelerated by applying friction.
Due to it's lengthy process it was impossible to study this phenomenon, until recently. Electric current applied on a sample submerged in a corrosive liquid allows us to obtain, in a few hours, corrosion that takes month or years to obtain naturally. In this manner, tribo corrosion has been studied by installing a polymer cell on a tribometer, containing
the sample to be tested in a corrosive liquid, connected to a potentiostat that applies an electric current in different ways.
The innovation of Tribo corrosion technique permits us to study the phenomenon of friction and corrosion in a reduced and accelerated time frame.

Our Potentiostat/Galvanostat is linked with TRIBOtester software able to handle electrochemical parameters (current and/or potential) are continuously recorded in parallel to friction force and coefficient friction curves . Our software automatically calculates chemical wear.

HIGH TEMPERATURE FRICTION TESTS

For your high temperature tribological needs we propose a new 600°C heating module for our TRIBOtester.
High temperature tribology is considered to begin from a minimum temperature of 300 - 350 °C, where organic base oils and polymers begin to decompose. In this field of tribology, tests are typically run under dry or solid-state friction, unless a solid lubricant is used, since
most lubricants will oxidize or break down when exposed to these extreme temperatures.
Therefore, this form of tribotesting is useful to determine the friction, wear, and other tribological characteristics of coatings, ceramics, cermets, alloys, and similar materials.
The test can run under a wide range of motion, load, and speed and permit to study material and coating friction coefficient and wear rate.
The dominant wear mechanisms are adhesive material transfer and abrasive material removal.

CONTACT RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT :

Measurement of electrical resistance with specific software capable of managing the measurement of electrical resistance recorded and continuously mixed alongside the friction force and friction coefficient curves.
