PSE 18th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering

September 12 - 15, 2022
Erfurt, Germany

The Industrial Workshop focuses on Changes in Plasma Surface Engineering. Next to the drive to new applications for low CO2 emission, new technologies like additive manufacturing have become available as well as new materials. Existing technologies like forming and molding are also influenced. A number of examples of new applications of plasma surface engineering will be shown.

A number of topics will be discussed:

Recent developments in Tool coatings will be shown, with changing work piece materials, requiring different coating solutions.
Solid-state battery technology without fluid electrolytes has the potential to deliver higher energy densities per mass unit than the presently used batteries. Furthermore, solid state batteries have a low risk of catching fire, unlike fluid electrolyte Li batteries. Solid state batteries require a number of PVD coatings, which will be shown.
For the production of green hydrogen, an overview of the present status will be given as well as expected developments during the next decade. Surface issues like corrosion and low interface energy, requiring dedicated coatings will be discussed in a separate presentation.
For the fuel cells for mass volume automotive an overview of coatings presently used, and coatings foreseen for the next 2 generations will be given.
Application of coatings for additively manufactured parts will be discussed.
A panel discussion will be held with at the end of the session.
